Rules
- All entries must be between 200 words and 750 words. Short stories, novels, essays, and poetry will be disqualified without refund. Microsoft Word will be used to verify length. The title is not included in the total word count.
- Contest opens for submissions on July 1, 2017 at 12:01 a.m. MST. Entries sent before then will be deleted unread and the entry fee will not be refunded.
- Contest closes 11:59 p.m. MST, October 31, 2017. Extended to November 10, 2017.
- Non-refundable entry fee is required to enter. Fee can be paid through Paypal.
- The contest is open to all authors. The piece submitted must be:
- unpublished (traditional, self-published, or e-published.)
- not under contract to be published.
- All entries must be original works written in English. Plagiarized, poetry, song lyrics, or stories which use characters or settings from another author's works will not be accepted.
- Use of the prompt will be scored.
- E-mail submissions only. Send entries to: [email protected]
- You may submit up to four entries. Each entry must be submitted separately.
- The subject line of all entries should read: TITLE-AUTHORNAME.
- Your entry must be formatted the following way:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your mailing address
- Telephone number. It will only be used in case you win and we can’t reach you via email.
- Word count.
- Your PayPal Transaction ID or receipt number, which is your confirmation number for payment.
- Your story. Please leave three blank lines before your story.

- The ten finalists will be notified no later than November 30, 2017 and the winners will be announced on or before December 10, 2017.
- Prizes: First - $100, Second - $50, and Third $20. Other prizes will be announced. They include autographed books and gift cards. As this is a fundraiser, if at least 20 entries are not received, the cash prizes will be lowered with third place getting at least $15 and the other two based on the amount received, but higher than third place.
- No contest entry fee will be refunded.
- By submitting, you are agreeing to all contest rules.
- The decision of the judges is final.
- Contest rules are subject to change.
- Entry fee goes toward prizes, fees, and the Jacob von Kutzleben Scholarship.
- Open to US citizens only.
- The contest will be extended or canceled if twenty (20) entries are not received by October 31, 2017.
